Shoden Temple is the first noteworthy temple of the Soto sect of Zen Buddhism among Akita Prefecture`s 33 Sacred Temple Grounds of Kanon. It is famous for the oldest bronze statue of Buddha in the Tohoku region of Japan. Located in a small, quiet village on a farming road off the main highway, it is the ideal environment to calm your mind and practice Zen Meditation.
